Psoriasis: new frontiers
The Skin Health Institute is proud to bring you part two of our 5-part series, providing an opportunity for GPs and GP registrars to upskill in the examination, diagnosis and management of psoriasis.
Co-hosted and facilitated by Dr. Anneliese Willems FRACGP, and consultant dermatologists, Assoc. Prof. Alvin Chong FACD And Dr. Aaron Robinson.
This workshop will seek to provide an overview of how to overcome diagnostic and clinical challenges associated with psoriasis presentation, and assist General Practitioners in optimising psoriasis management. The workshop will be presented virtually with an interactive vignette-based presentation. The workshop will provide hands-on techniques for the general practitioner managing psoriasis independently, as well as explore how to optimise the General Practitioner’s vital role within the psoriasis multidisciplinary team.
Topics covered include:
1. Aetiology and pathophysiology of psoriasis
2. The diverse clinical presentations of psoriasis
3. Assessing for disease severity and comorbidity
4. Managing psoriasis: From topical treatment to biologic therapy
After this session, attendees should be able to:
- Recognise psoriasis according to severity and subtype
- Describe comorbidities often associated with psoriasis
- Outline management options for psoriasis according to disease severity

MEET THE HOSTS
DR AARON ROBINSON BBIOTECH (HONS), MBBS, PHD, FACD
Dr. Aaron Robinson is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists with a range of interests in medical and surgical dermatology, including skin cancer surveillance and management, acne, alopecia, and inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Aaron works at the Skin Health Institute in the Transplant and Skin Cancer assessment clinics and is also involved in clinical research with the Skin Health Institute. Aaron has an appointment as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne and has public appointments as a Consultant Dermatologist at St. Vincent's Hospital and The Northern Hospital.
A/PROF PETER FOLEY
Associate Professor Peter Foley is a clinical dermatologist, and has a wealth of experience in dermatology particularly in the treatment of psoriasis. He is Australia’s only councillor on the International Psoriasis Council and served on the steering committee of GRAPPA (Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis).
A/Prof Foley currently holds the positions of Associate Professor, Department of Medicine (Dermatology) at The University of Melbourne, Director of Research at the Skin Health Institute and Head, Dermatology Research, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. He is a visiting dermatologist at the Photobiology, Phototherapy and Biologics Clinics at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, and the Phototherapy and Biologics Clinics at the Skin Health Institute.
As the Director of Research, A/Prof Foley directs the Institute's rapidly expanding clinical trials program and is co-convenor of the Australasian Psoriasis Registry. To date he has been an author on well over 100 peer reviewed publications, including the reports of many of the pivotal trials of biologics in psoriasis and has been an investigator in over 100 clinical trials, many for new therapies for psoriasis. He is a world renowned expert on psoriasis and has been invited to speak at numerous meetings in all corners of the globe.
Dr ANNELIESE WILLEMS FRACGP
Dr Anneliese Willems is a Melbourne-based general practitioner with a special interest in dermatology. She is passionate about enhancing education in skin disease and promoting interprofessional collaboration between treating practitioners. As a part of her enthusiasm for education, she has worked as a medical educator in both general practice training and undergraduate medical education over the past 5 years. She is looking forward to joining the Skin Health Institute as a research fellow in 2021.
