Hair today, gone tomorrow - an introduction to trichoscopy and hair loss disorders.

The Skin Health Institute is proud to present part four of our 5-part series, providing an opportunity for GPs and GP registrars to upskill in the examination, diagnosis and management of hair loss in general practice and an introduction to Trichoscopy.

Hair loss is a common presentation to Australian GPs and GP registrars. It is often the first sign of serious systemic disease and may carry with it a heavy psychological burden. This workshop will ensure that practitioners are well placed to diagnose hair loss early and initiate timely treatment, improving long term outcomes for patients.

Co-hosted and facilitated by Dr Anneliese Willems FRACGP, and Consultant Dermatologists, Dr Jane Li & Dr Jack Green.

Topics covered include:
    • The fundamentals of hair anatomy and physiology
    • Hair loss history and examination
    • Trichoscopy: an introduction
    • Hair loss investigations
    • Classification of hair diseases
    • Male-pattern hair loss (MPHL)
    • Female-pattern hair loss (FPHL)
    • Alopecia Areata (AA)
    • Acute Telogen Effluvium
After this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Outline fundamental hair anatomy and physiology
  2. Identify common presentations of alopecia
  3. Review the pathophysiology of the different types of alopecia and how they may present on Trichoscopy
  4. Describe treatment options for common causes of alopecia

Case studies will be presented and discussed during the session.
