Faculty History

Like all professional communities, the medical specialty of dermatology includes people of many generations and convictions, and it has ebbed and flowed in the wake of 20th century cultural, social and economic forces.

Emma Russell from [email protected] was commissioned to do some oral histories with longstanding members of the community and to produce oral history stories for the benefit of all members.

The first two stories “Get out of your own backyard - Training in dermatology” and “Coming of age - Transitions in Victorian dermatology” were launched at the annual dinner on October 16 2015. They were received with great interest and there are many more oral history stories waiting to be produced.

This is only the beginning of the ‘Who are we now?” history project, which aims to strengthen, unite, and provide a focus for the dermatological community in Victoria into the 21st century.

We hope to fill this webpage with fascinating stories. [email protected] will be our Historian-in-Residence for the duration of the “Who are we now?” project.

If you have an idea for a dermatology story, if there is an aspect of dermatological history you would like to know more about, or if you are interested in contributing with your stories, please contact Emma at [email protected], [email protected].
