Adults who suffer socially and psychologically from appearance-altering conditions can now benefit from new services offered at the Skin Health Institute.
These individuals are usually healthy, however, their condition significantly affects their quality of life and psychological well-being.
Psychologist Sebastiana Biondo now offers a psychological and support service at the Institute for individuals that suffer from conditions that include hair loss, trichotillomania, vitiligo, psoriasis, and skin cancers.
The issues that are generally addressed include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, social isolation, relationships, shame & embarrassment, and work.
Professionals working with individuals suffering from appearance-altering conditions need to be sensitive to their emotional status and can incorporate counselling in meeting their patient's care management.
