Meet the Clinical Trials Team

Associate Professor Peter Foley MBBS, MD, FACD

Research Director, Board Member Skin Health Institute

Associate Professor Peter Foley is a senior clinical dermatologist with a wealth of experience, particularly in the treatment of psoriasis. A/Prof Foley currently holds the position of Associate Professor, Department of Medicine (Dermatology) at The University of Melbourne, Director of Research at the Skin Health Institute, Head of Dermatology Research at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, and the Phototherapy and Biologics Clinics at the Skin Health Institute.

As Director of Research, A/Prof Foley directs a rapidly expanding clinical trials program and the Australasian Psoriasis Registry. He has well over 80 peer reviewed publications and has been an investigator in over 80 clinical trials. He is a world-renowned expert on psoriasis and has been invited to speak at numerous meetings in all corners of the globe.

Associate Professor Alvin Chong MBBS, BMed, FACD

Principal Investigator

Associate Professor Chong is a senior dermatologist at the Skin Health Institute. 

A/Prof Chong is very involved in undergraduate and post-graduate dermatology education. He teaches at the University of Melbourne and is the Coordinator and Facilitator of the Institute's GP Workshops on Dermoscopy, Skin Cancer and Inflammatory Skin Diseases and has now trained over 500 Australian GPs. A/Prof Chong is the Director of Education at the Institute and heads up the Institute's Transplant Clinic. He has also been Victorian Censor for the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

A/Prof Chong has been elected Member of the prestigious Melbourne University Academy of Clinical Teachers and is known for his passion for teaching.

Associate Professor Chris Baker MBBS, FACD, GAICD

Principal Investigator

Associate Professor Chris Baker is a clinical dermatologist based in Melbourne and the former President of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. A/Prof Baker has particular interest in advanced psoriasis therapies, photodermatology and phototherapy, and clinical trials. He is the Director of the Department of Dermatology at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and past president of the Skin Health Institute. He is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

A/Prof Baker established the first dedicated photodermatology and light testing facility in Australia at St Vincent's Hospital. He has been co-investigator on a number of clinical trials for biologic therapies and conducts advanced psoriasis clinics at the Skin Health Institute and St Vincent's Hospital. He was involved in the implementation and development of local treatment protocols. 

A/Prof Baker was co-founder of the Australasian Psoriasis Registry (APR), an online Australian and New Zealand registry established in 2008 for psoriasis patients on systemic and biologic therapies. He has authored papers on goals of care and quality of life studied in psoriasis. He is currently involved in a collaborative project developing biofabrication of skin and 3D printing.

Dr Natalie Wong MBBS (Hons) BMedSci (Hons) DipSurgAnat 

Sub Investigator

Dr Wong graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) from Monash University in 2015.

Dr Wong has long been fascinated with dermatology. As a medical student, she sought to gain a greater understanding of both clinical and laboratory dermatology through clinical electives as well as obtaining a Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) from Monash University in 2014, performing research with the Alfred Skin Tissue Culture Laboratory. Dr Wong was the recipient of the Terence Connors Prize in Clinical Dermatology from Monash University in 2015.

Dr Wong completed her resident years at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne where she developed medical and procedural skills on rotations in Dermatology, Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology. She obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy from the University of Melbourne in 2017 and was the recipient of the Certificate of Excellence Prize for Plastics. She maintains an ongoing commitment to teaching as an anatomy demonstrator for the course.

Dr Wong has published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at both Australian and international scientific meetings. She is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through clinical research.
