Two and a half years into the pandemic and the landscape has vastly changed. In this episode, we will explore our understanding of COVID and the skin, how it has evolved, and what new information is available. Two guests will join us: Associate Professor Esther Freeman and Professor Allen Cheng, both experts in their respective fields.

PROFESSOR ALLEN CHENG

Prof. Allen Cheng is an infectious diseases physician and the former Victorian deputy chief health officer. He is Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology and is Director of the Infection Prevention and Healthcare Epidemiology unit at Alfred Health. He has a PhD (Flinders University), a Master of Public Health (Monash University) and a Master of Biostatistics (University of Queensland). He is current Chair of the Advisory Committee for Vaccines and a previous member of the Advisory Committee on Prescription Medicines (advising the Therapeutic Goods Administration on vaccine and drug regulation issues), and Co-Chair of the Australian Technical Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). He is also a member of the National Influenza Surveillance Committee.


ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ESTHER FREEMAN

Assoc. Prof Esther Freeman trained as an epidemiologist with a PhD from the London School of Tropical Medicine, as well as being a dermatologist. Currently, Esther is the director of Global Health Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, the chair of the Clinical Guidelines Committee at the American Academy of Dermatology, and a member of the AAD COVID-19 Task Force. 

She directs the COVID-19 Dermatology Registry, which is an international effort with thousands of cases from all over the world. She has published seminal papers on the cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19.


ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ALVIN CHONG

Assoc. Prof Chong's public clinical appointments are Specialist Dermatologist and Director of Dermatology Education at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. He is also the Head of the Transplant Dermatology Clinic at the Skin Health Institute. He has an appointment at the University of Melbourne as Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Medicine, where he has a profile as an international authority on skin cancers in immunosuppressed patients.
